SPEECH DELIVERED AT SANKERA CULTURAL DAY/ SEND FORTH. UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE MAKURDI MARCH 3RD, 2018

                            Delivered by:
Dr. Torngee Malu  FWACS, FMCS, FDAFPRS (Stuttgart, Germany)

Consultant plastic surgeon, Medical Director and CEO Med and Med ltd. Chairman of Board iron stone engineering Nigeria ltd. Ass Secretary, Nigerian Association of Plastic Surgeons (NAPRAS).
Senatorial Aspirant, The Awashima and hope of Zone A.

I greet you all my younger brothers and Sisters.

I Resigned from civil service one year ago at grade level 16 and was due for promotion to grade level 17. I was the only one with the qualification I had in the hospital and I am sought after across Nigeria and the world. I had a salary running into hundreds of thousands of Naira every month.

Why did I resign so early?

Why did I leave a job that many people are begging to get?

I will tell you why as we go along.

15 years ago I was in the same shoes with many of you, I was graduating from medical School, by then some of you may have been in Nursery school or primary school at most.

The times have gone but things have only gotten worse . We were told that we are the future of tomorrow, The leaders I knew since I was in primary school are the same ones that are here now that you are graduating to enter the job market
Things have changed But the leaders have remained the same.

Some of the leaders were governors when I graduated, some were Chairmen of big political parties, some were in the national assembly.

Times have changed but the same people are the ones ruling the state and the country till today .

Everything you see around you now was caused by them.
If things have gotten worse, they are the ones to blame, if they have gotten better they are the ones to be praised.

You all will agree with me that they have gotten worse.
Our people are being killed in their thousands, Children are being slaughtered in their sleep , pregnant women are ripped open and killed before their Children .

Our Ukum brothers are taking up arms against their Shitile brothers and our Shitile brothers are killing their brothers in Ukum which has never happened in our history. And it seems there is no one to bring them together and say enough of this nonsense.

Whatever we see today is a direct result of the people that have been in government since democracy returned to Nigeria in 1999
Let us call a spade a spade, our elders have had their chance and they have failed woefully.

They have led us into more trouble than we ever imagined.
They have put our land in a big mess, it is worse than it has ever been before now.

Whatever political title they carry or political party they belong to does not matter, they are are all the same.

As you graduate today, some of you are the first graduates in your families or villages, your people are hopeful that you will get a job and help your younger ones or your parents.

Some of you paid through your nose to reach where you are now, you farmed, you begged, you did all kinds of things just to graduate, but now that you have graduated what next:? There are no jobs outside there for you, in fact those who left before you are still searching for the same jobs.

The reason is still the same. We have had leaders that are not thinking of you , they are not thinking of the future, they are not thinking of the next generation.

They are not thinking of the State or the Nation Nigeria
They are more concerned about what they will put into their pockets than what they can do for youths like you.

They are only making themselves and their families richer and richer while you get poorer and poorer.

I started with a question of why I left a juicy job
This is the reason.

I want to help my people, I have never been a politician before.
For those of you that have read my biography, you know that I was given the opportunity I have now by my uncle, Professor Malu who picked me from a tiny village in Logo where I was born.

At the age of 10 years I could not speak a word in English,
He gave me the opportunity to go to school and I took it, I became the best wherever I went.

That is why I am where I am today.

I left my well paying Job because I want to give other Children the same opportunity i had to become like me and even greater.

I am tired of complaining about bad leadership. I want to lead by example
I want to give young men and women like you who struggled to go to school the opportunity to get good jobs and make good money.

I want to give farmers the opportunity to make money with their harvest and live the life they dreamed of living, I want our people to have good health so that they can pursue their dreams of being great. I don’t want anyone to die of snake bite anymore. Never again!

I want to unite our people, I want the Ukum and Shitile brothers and sisters to sit together just like you people are sitting together today listening to me not minding where you come from.

I don’t want our villages attacked again. The best people to protect themselves are the owners of the land. I want our people to be empowered so that no one can dare them. We are warriors, we can protect ourselves because it is our right. We cannot sit back and cry as if we are helpless.

All we need to do is to follow due process.

Even in town where we have enough police and military men, we still need private Security to protect lives and properties how much more in the villages where there is no security of any sort. We also need private security in our villages not just the police and military. But we must follow the right protocols and to do it right.

Time will fail me to tell you my passion and dream for Benue and Zone A in particular, my agenda will soon be published and you can read it online and in the newspapers
This is why I resigned, to help my people.

But the same people that led us into this forest of troubles are still there, the same people that are responsible for all the problems we currently have are not tired of destroying our state and our land.
That is why I am calling on you to join me let us take our future into our hands, they have destroyed our past

Are we going to allow them destroy our future also?
Let us rise up and save our future.

As you go out of this school your first assignment should be to register in Sankera and make sure every member of your family has also registered to vote.

Volunteer with Uya Uya movement today and take the message of transformation to your villages and houses.
Our future is at stake,
They have destroyed our past, we will not allow them destroy our future.
They have eaten their cake already, we must not allow them to eat our own and that of our children.
The future of Sankera is in your hands
The Future of Zone A is in your hands
The future of Benue is in your hands
Register and vote, contest for elections.
Don’t wait for tomorrow, tomorrow is now. We are the leaders of today not tomorrow.
